Russia Unveils ‘Multik’ System to Counter Ukrainian Drone Attacks

Russia has developed a new electronic warfare system to shield its helicopters from Ukrainian drone attacks.

The “Multik” system is produced by the Gradient Research Institute and is designed to detect and jam the control and video links of first-person view (FPV) drones, according to a report by Ukraine-based Defense Express.

It operates in the 700 MHz to 6,000 MHz range with claimed detection up to 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) and jamming around 500 meters (1,640 feet).

The new system reportedly covers a full 360-degree azimuth and can carry three simultaneous jamming channels, while weighing under 9.5 kilograms (20 pounds) and drawing power from onboard systems.

Russian state and industry materials stated that the system is being integrated on helicopters and ground platforms to defend against swarm FPV drone strikes by Ukrainian forces, which have targeted Russian rotary-wing assets in recent months.

Russian Counter-Drone Efforts

Russia’s Multik electronic warfare system is part of a broader push to counter Kyiv’s expanding use of drones across the front.

Among existing systems, the 1L269 Krasukha-2 and Krasukha-4 remain key assets for high-powered jamming of enemy radar and communications, often deployed near strategic command centers to disrupt Ukrainian reconnaissance and targeting data.

Russia also uses the Repellent-1 and Silok-01 anti-UAV systems to detect, track, and block drone control signals at medium ranges.

Smaller, unit-level defenses have also multiplied. The Russian Ministry of Defence has distributed portable jamming domes like the Volnorez and Rubezh systems to front-line infantry and vehicle crews for localized protection against FPV drones.

These measures were formalized under an updated counter-UAV doctrine that directs every battalion and platoon to carry at least one form of electronic countermeasure. The doctrine also prioritizes rapid training for operators and integrates drone suppression into combined-arms tactics.
