Spanish Company to Produce Ukrainian Kozak and Dzhura Armored Vehicles

Spanish special equipment manufacturer Tecnove will produce armored vehicles developed by Ukrainian company NPO Praktika for the European market.

The announcement was made by Tecnove on its official channels.

The Spanish firm signed an agreement with Praktika to establish the Human & Safe Systems association, which will handle licensed production of Ukrainian armored vehicles at Tecnove’s facilities in Herencia, Castilla-La Mancha. The association will also be responsible for promoting the vehicles across Europe.

“Our goal is to offer solutions tailored to the defense sector that guarantee maximum safety and productivity,” Tecnove said.

The company plans to expand production of the light tactical Dzhura vehicle, as well as an unspecified version of the Kozak armored vehicle, which was illustrated in its Kozak-5 modification.

Since most Praktika models are built on existing SUV chassis, the partnership likely involves the transfer of technical documentation and production rights to the Spanish partner, rather than the supply of vehicle kits.

Tecnove already has experience modifying vehicles based on the Toyota Land Cruiser platform, which underpins the Dzhura. The Kozak-5 is based on the U.S.-made Ford F-550 chassis.

Tecnove specializes in the production of special-purpose vehicles for emergency services, the military, and industrial clients. The company also designs field hospitals and modular systems based on shipping containers.

Spanish Market

Deployment of Ukrainian armored vehicles by Spain’s own Armed Forces is unlikely due to strong competition from the domestically produced URO VAMTAC series. These light tactical vehicles are available in various configurations, including STANAG Level 3 protected variants.

In addition, the Spanish military already operates a large fleet of armored and mine-protected vehicles, including the Iveco LMV and RG-31 Nyala.

However, licensed production in Spain could offer a pathway for Praktika to access international markets while avoiding current restrictions on Ukrainian arms exports. During the war, Praktika’s armored vehicles have built a reputation for reliability and a favorable price-to-performance ratio, making it a strategic moment to be spread abroad.

Another incentive for the Ukrainian manufacturer is the increasing pace of European rearmament, which in the future may receive investments of over €150 billion. Militarnyi told more about this in the article “The EU Prepares for War: European Commission Sets Defense Policy for 2030.”
