Sweden Expands Fleet With 22 Combat Boats From Saab
Saab has received an order from Sweden for 22 combat boats valued at 900 million Swedish kronor ($94 million).
The boats will be built at Saab’s Docksta shipyard, with deliveries scheduled over the next few years.
Saab’s high-speed combat boat, the CB90HSM, is the latest evolution of the CB90 platform.
It features enhanced speed, maneuverability, firepower, and situational awareness.
In June 2024, Sweden ordered 10 next-generation combat boats for $38 million, the latest purchase before this new contract.
“This order represents a significant addition to Sweden’s naval capabilities. We are proud that Saab’s combat boats continue to contribute to Sweden’s defense,” said Mats Wicksell, head of Saab’s business area Kockums.

Constructed entirely of aluminum, the CB 90HSM is built for high-speed operations and designed to transport troops and equipment while maintaining stability and agility under demanding conditions.
The vessel measures 16.3 meters in overall length (53.5 feet), with a hull length of 14.9 meters.
Its 0.9-meter (3-foot) draft allows it to operate effectively in shallow coastal waters.
Fully loaded, the CB 90HSM can exceed speeds of 40 knots (46 miles/74 kilometers per hour), with a cruising speed of 38 knots (43 miles/70 kilometers per hour).
It has an operational range of up to 300 nautical miles (345 miles/555 kilometers), allowing for extended patrols and rapid-response missions.
The platform is equipped with a modern combat management system and advanced surveillance sensors.
The weapons platform can be equipped with stabilized turntables, small missile systems, and includes Saab’s Trackfire remote weapon station for enhanced targeting and engagement capabilities.
For crew protection, the CB 90HSM includes ballistic shielding with polyethylene lining and reinforced safety glass.
