Taiwan has received its first batch of the MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) from the US.

However, the number of recently delivered missiles has not been disclosed, state media CNA wrote, citing a Taiwanese military source.

According to the outlet, Taipei received the longest-range ATACMS version of the weapon, capable of striking targets 300 kilometers (186 miles) away, bringing the Chinese mainland within range.

The delivery came along with the first batch of 11 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), whose arrival Taipei’s defense ministry announced last week.

Twenty-Nine HIMARS, 64 ATACMS Ordered

The Trump administration approved the sale of 29 of the truck-mounted HIMARS and 64 ATACMS for Taiwan in October 2020.

The rocket artillery units have been delivered to the 58th Artillery Command of the 10th Army Corps in Taichung, where the soldiers are being trained to operate the systems.

According to CNA, the ATACMS will also be assigned to the same command.

The ATACMS is one of two munitions of the HIMARS along with the Guided multiple launch rocket system, which has a range of around 70 kilometers (43 miles).

The delivery comes on the heels of the US approving the sale of National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems and long-range radars to Taiwan worth $1.94 billion.

Also on the cards is the commencement of much-awaited deliveries of 66 F-16V fighter jets in 2026.
