The Netherlands, together with an unnamed country, will supply Ukraine with Patriot system
The Netherlands and another country are preparing to provide Ukraine with the Patriot air defense system.
Ollongren, who is leaving her post, said that the Netherlands and another country had managed to find a Patriot system for Ukraine.
At the same time, she did not name the country that is also participating in the provision of the air defense system, explaining that it should announce it itself.
The minister also did not say when the Patriot system would arrive in Ukraine, lest the Russians take
She emphasized that air defense was ”crucial” for Ukraine, noting the ”very good news” that Romania had also announced this week that it would provide Patriot system to the Ukrainian military.
Back in late May, the Dutch Ministry of Defense announced that it wanted to find a Patriot SAM system in a short time and present it to Ukraine.
The ministry called on other countries that have this air defense system in service to join in.
“Industrial suppliers have pledged to ramp up the production and delivery of spare components. We are counting on it,” Ollongren said at the time.
Prior to that, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte suggested that Western countries should buy Patriot air defense systems for Ukraine from countries that have them but do not want to provide them to Kyiv.
As previously reported, the Supreme Council of National Defence called for the transfer of the Patriot SAM system to Ukraine.
The United States also elevates Ukraine as a priority recipient of anti-aircraft missiles for air defense systems.
