Romania has contracted Polaris Government and Defense for the procurement of over 50 Dagor ultralight tactical vehicles for its armed forces.

The southeastern European country will receive the off-road vehicles through the US government’s foreign military sales program, which seeks to strengthen allies.

The contract includes up fits and spare parts for the vehicles as well as operator and maintenance training.

Brings Commonality With Other Forces

The procurement increases the Romanian military’s interoperability with other special mission forces that operate the vehicle, including US forces, Canadian Special Operations Forces Command, and multiple European armies.

“Polaris military vehicles have become force multipliers for expeditionary forces by extending mission range while mitigating operator fatigue and increasing mission readiness and capability,” the company wrote.

Features

The Dagor can carry up to nine soldiers with gears for a total payload capacity of up to 4,000 pounds (1,814 kilograms).

The 3,856 kilograms (8,500 pounds) vehicle has a range of 500 miles (805 kilometers) and a towing capacity of 2,950 kilograms (6,500 pounds).

Its modular design allows it to be reconfigured for multiple missions and environments.

The lightweight vehicle is rapidly deployable through the air on CH-47 and CH-53 helicopters, as well as internal transport aboard C-130 Hercules.

More Tactical Vehicles Expected

Romania already operates Polaris MV850 all-terrain vehicles and MRZR turbo diesel ultralight all-terrain vehicles.

The NATO member is also expected to get 95 Heavy Gun Carrier Joint Light Tactical Vehicles from the US.
