India Plans to Assemble Javelin Anti-Tank Guided Missiles

Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Javelin Joint Venture (a joint venture between Raytheon and Lockheed Martin) have signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the joint production of Javelin anti-tank guided missiles in India.

The Indian company became the lead partner following an assessment by U.S. experts, Lockheed Martin reported.

As part of the agreement, the parties are exploring the possibility of establishing a facility for the final assembly and integration of Javelin All Up Round (AUR) missiles, as well as localizing the manufacture of certain components.

The production process involves the supply of components from the U.S.: the kits will be manufactured at the Lockheed Martin plant in Troy, Alabama, and the guidance electronics units at the Raytheon facility in Tucson, Arizona. The missiles will be assembled in India.

For the U.S. side, expanding production volumes will enable economies of scale, which should reduce production costs and optimize expenses.

To date, the JJV joint venture has already manufactured over 55,000 Javelin missiles and more than 12,000 reusable launchers.
