The foreign ministers of Russia and Türkiye will meet in Moscow today. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the meeting will discuss the supply of 1 million tonnes of grain to Türkiye with the financial support of Qatar.
The meeting in Moscow on Thursday between Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is essential in the context of the grain crisis and the development of high-level relations between the two countries despite pressure from third countries, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The planned meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin was also emphasized in the statement.
“During the meeting between Fidan and Lavrov on Thursday, it is planned to discuss high-level relations between Russia and Türkiye. In addition, the meeting of President Erdogan and President Putin will take place very soon,” the statement said.
GRAIN DEAL ON AGENDA
The grain deal signed in Istanbul last July, which Russia decided not to extend, will also be discussed at this meeting, the statement said.
“The situation with grain shipments through Ukrainian ports, which were suspended last 17 July, will be discussed,” the statement said.
‘ALTERNATIVE AGREEMENT TO BLACK SEA DEAL’
In addition, it was stated that the shipment of 1 million Russian grain to Türkiye with the financial support of Qatar will be discussed at the meeting.
“The foreign ministers of Russia and Türkiye plan to work out the parameters for the implementation of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s initiative to organize the supply of 1 million tonnes of Russian grain at a reduced price to Türkiye with the financial support of Qatar for processing at Turkish enterprises and shipment to the countries that need it most,” it said.
TÜRKİYE-SYRIA RELATIONS TO BE DISCUSSED
With this, the statement, which also mentioned the steps taken towards the normalization of relations between Türkiye and Syria, said that Fidan and Lavrov will also discuss the meetings on Syria, which started with the Astana process, and the normalization process of Türkiye-Syria relations.
TÜRKİYE’S FOREIGN POLICY ON AGENDA
It was highlighted that the initiatives regarding the re-development of Türkiye-Armenia relations, the industries regarding the opening of new transport channels in the region after the conflicts in Nagorno-Karabakh, the further development of economic relations between Türkiye and Russia, the security of Russian citizens living in Türkiye and the initiatives regarding the gas center planned to be established in Türkiye will also be discussed, while Russia’s support in the forest fires in the Aegean will also be discussed.
