More than 1,300 modern Multi-Mode Radios (MMR) radios will be delivered to the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force through a £90 million programme with the first tranche in service by the end of 2022.

Their introduction into the MOD’s tactical networks will provide increased interoperability with key allies and boosts the communications capabilities of the deployed forces. Highly portable and equipped with powerful batteries, they can be operated either by dismounted soldiers or mounted on vehicles. The highly capable radios feature a range of technical advances and upgrades allowing them to work across a range of security classifications.

Land Environment Tactical Communications and Information Systems Programme Manager, Colonel Lizzie Mortimore, said: “We are very pleased to announce the arrival of the next generation of the multi-mode radio capability. It will offer significant enhancement to the warfighter across all three services by delivering world-leading command and communications capability to the front line.”
