UAE Signs $124M Deal With EOS for Slinger Counter-Drone System
The UAE ordered EOS’s Slinger counter-drone RWS in a $124 million deal that also launches a joint high-energy laser weapon venture.
The UAE has awarded Electro Optic Systems (EOS) a $124 million contract for its Slinger counter-drone remote weapon system (RWS), in a deal that expands the platform’s international footprint.
The contract covers the full Slinger RWS package, including the cannon, spares, training, and associated support systems, with delivery routed to Abu Dhabi-based Generation 5 (Gen5) Holding.
Manufacturing will be split between Australia and the UAE, and the rollout is expected in 2027.
The agreement forms part of a binding joint venture between the two companies, which will also focus on the development and export of high-energy laser weapons (HELWs), including a system reportedly capable of up to 300 kW output.
“EOS understands that the [Slingers] are intended to strengthen defense systems in light of ongoing regional tensions in the Middle East,” EOS stated in a press release.
The order remains subject to Gen5’s customary terms and applicable export approval requirements.
Slinger RWS
The Slinger system combines a 4D targeting radar, a 30mm cannon, and stabilization technology in a single counter-unmanned aerial system platform.
It can fire explosive fragmentation rounds designed to defeat drone targets at ranges beyond 800 meters (2,625 feet).
EOS positions the system as part of layered counter-drone networks, deployable across multiple platforms to protect military assets.
A modernised variant adds improved target recognition and varying levels of autonomous operation.
Earlier versions of the system have already been used in operational environments.
