US Approves $136M Stinger Components Sale to NATO
The US State Department has approved a potential $136.1-million foreign military sale to the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) for components, parts, and services under the Stinger Service Life Extension Program.
The program refurbishes and replaces key components of existing Stinger missiles, extending their operational life while maintaining reliability and short-range air defense capability.
NSPA manages the program for Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands.
It has requested additional booster pellets, flight motors, gas generator cartridges, and Stinger warhead sections.
The agency has also requested technical documentation and support from the US government and contractors.
These items will be added to a prior sale valued at $50.7 million.
The sale aims to enhance the air defense capabilities of the three European nations, improve NATO allies’ readiness and interoperability with the US and allied forces, and support US foreign policy and national security objectives.
The main contractors are PTI Technologies Inc., based in Oxnard, California, and L3Harris in Camden, Arkansas.
No offset agreements are currently planned, and any future arrangements will be settled directly between the purchaser and the contractors.
Carrying out the sale will not require any additional US government or contractor personnel at NSPA.
