The US Marine Corps has awarded Oshkosh Defense a $23.7 million contract for the delivery of land-based unmanned Naval Strike Missile launchers.

The contract is for the delivery of Remotely Operated Ground Unit for Expeditionary Fires (ROGUE-Fires) vehicles that make up the Navy/Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System (NMESIS).

NMESIS is a land-based missile launcher platform that provides the Marine Corps High Mobility Artillery Rocket System battalions and operating forces with anti-ship capabilities.

NMESIS integrates a Naval Strike Missile (NSM) launcher unit, capable of launching two NSMs, onto a ROGUE-Fires carrier. The NSM is the same missile used by the navy for the over the horizon weapon system deployed on littoral combat ships.

Oshkosh Defense is expected to complete work under the contract in November 2023

NMESIS completed its first test launch in November 2019 and another one likely in November 2020.

In August 2021, the US Navy and Marine Corps tested NMESIS against a decommissioned vessel off the coast of Hawaii during Large Scale Exercise 21.

NMESIS is being fielded as part of the Marine Corps Force Design 2030 objectives, as a mean of contributing to the fleet’s ability to achieve sea control, sea denial and defense against adversary amphibious force missions.
