The US State Department has approved a Foreign Military Sale of Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) to North Macedonia for $111 million.

Skopje will acquire 18 additional Heavy Gun Carriers and seven General Purpose vehicles on top of an earlier $79-million agreement for 71 JLTVs.

Various logistical elements and program support will be covered under the sale.

The principal contractors will include Oshkosh, AM General, and L3Harris.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency shared in a statement that the sale will support the US’ foreign policy by boosting a NATO ally’s national and territorial defense.

A Versatile Capability

Designed and manufactured by Oshkosh, the JLTV can support various support and tactical roles with multiple variants.

Its four variants can take on armament carrier, utility, command and control, ambulance, and reconnaissance roles while keeping its crew safe with blast- and fire-protection equipment, as well as a scalable crew protection system.

Its offroad performance is 70% faster than other tactical vehicles, with a maximum speed of 70 (110 kilometers) per hour.

More than 18,500 units have been built for its eight operators around the world, including Belgium, Lithuania, Romania, and the US.
