Despite world economic sanctions against Russia, Russian defense company Omsktransmash, which is part of Uralvagonzavod under Rostec State Corporation, handed over another batch of T-80BVM Main Battle Tanks to the Russian Ministry of Defense as part of the State defense order. During their modernization, important work was carried out to improve the security of the tank crew.

Updated T-80BVM tanks passed the necessary tests. Hence, in the near future, they will go to the military units of the Russian army, Omsktransmash wrote. This indicates that, in spite of difficulties in getting some components previously coming from foreign countries, Russia succeeds in keeping a certain production of tanks and delivering them to the troops fighting in Ukraine.

T-80BVM is a unique Russian tank design powered by a gas turbine engine, being modernized at the Omsk plant. They have served in various parts of the country for several years. Omsktransmash is the only manufacturer of this T-80 modification.

“T-80BVM have an undeniable advantage when operating at low temperatures. We have proved that they are also combat-ready in the opposite season”, said the Director General of Omsktransmash, Igor Lobov.

The T-80BVM tank is an improved version of the T-80BV tank, developed by Omsktransmash. It has increased firepower, protection and maneuverability: new multi-channel gunner’s sight was built without imported components. The tank has been supplied to the Russian Armed Forces since 2019.

The T-80BVM has improved armor protection consisting of Relikt explosive reactive armor kit which is also used by the latest Russian main battle tanks, such as T-90M and T-90MS.

The 80BVM is armed with a 2A46M-1 gun offering greater shooting distance. Using APFSDS (Armour-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot) ammunition, the tank has a maximum firing from 2,000 to 3,000 m during the day and 2,000 to 2,600 m during the night. The main gun can also fire The tank can 9M119M Refleks (NATO reporting name AT-11 or Sniper-B) anti-tank guided missiles with a range from 4 to 5 km.
