Bulgaria increased its defense spending by 7.49 percent

Bulgaria’s defence expenditure has increased by 7.49% in 2022 compared to last year, according to NATO estimates presented on Monday. Bulgaria’s defence expenditure as share of GDP is estimated at 1.67% in 2022.

Out of the 30 NATO member states, only 7 have reached the target of defence spending equal to 2% of GDP: the USA, Greece, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, the UK and Latvia.

NATO’s goal is to have its members spend at least 20% of their defence budgets on equipment. Most member states successfully meet this goal, including Bulgaria with 22.6%.
