China develops new 155mm wheeled howitzer
Chinese state TV has released footage showing the latest 155mm wheeled howitzer designed for the international market.
The advanced artillery system features a 4×4 chassis, potentially a modified version of the Iron Horse platform from Beiben Heavy Duty Truck, and a 39-caliber barrel with a screw-type breech. This new howitzer demonstrated firing projectiles similar to the traditional “zaohe” rounds, known for their capability in both direct and indirect fire.
This is a new version of the Chinese truck-mounted PCL-181 (SH-15 export designation).
The introduction of this howitzer highlights China’s ongoing efforts to enhance its military technology offerings for global buyers, promising advanced capabilities and operational versatility. The system’s compatibility with various firing modes and its robust chassis design make it a competitive addition to the international defense market.
