Germany to Co-Develop Europe’s Common Armored Vehicle System
Germany has joined the research and development of the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) program, a multinational initiative between Finland, Latvia, and Sweden to develop a new 6×6 armored personnel carrier.
The country will have access to the results of the program’s product development packages, gaining the ability to co-define future requirements for the new capability.
Berlin will contribute to the initiative’s supply security, ensuring the program’s various phases progress with the help of local industries.
The CAVS will be based on Patria’s XA-300 six-wheeled armored personnel carrier.
The program is open to all European countries looking for similar requirements.
The CAVS Program
Jointly established by Finland, Estonia, and Latvia in 2020, the CAVS program was established to address the need for a unified amphibious fleet capable of troop transport and armored protection.
The vehicle can travel up to 60 miles (100 kilometers) per hour on land and 5 miles (8 kilometers) per hour in water.
The program has selected other arms manufacturers to incorporate their capabilities into their vehicles. In March, Kongsberg signed a deal with Patria to deliver Protector remote weapon stations for the platform.
Current delivery schedules are slated to run until 2030.
