No Palestinian reaction yet on claim
The Israeli army said Wednesday that its forces are at the gates of Gaza City amid a massive military offensive against the Palestinian territory.
The army’s Division 162 forces “are deep in the Gaza Strip, at the gates of Gaza City,” division commander Itzik Cohen said in statements cited by Haaretz.
“In the last five days, we have dismantled many Hamas capabilities (and) attacked strategic installations,” he said.
There has been no reaction from Palestine on the claim.
The Israeli army has expanded its air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has been under relentless airstrikes since the surprise attack by Hamas on Oct. 7.
More than 10,300 people have since been killed in the conflict, including at least 8,796 Palestinians and more than 1,538 Israelis.
Besides the large number of casualties and displacement, basic supplies are running low for the 2.3 million residents in Gaza due to the Israeli siege.
