The U.S. Navy has granted Lockheed Martin a contract to manufacture six MH-60R SEAHAWK helicopters tailored for the Norwegian government.

These versatile MH-60R aircraft, designed and produced by Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, will empower Norway to undertake a range of maritime operations including search and rescue missions, coastal patrols, and offshore surveillance.

Hamid Salim, Vice President of Sikorsky Maritime Systems, emphasized the extensive expertise shared between Sikorsky, the U.S. Navy, and their four-decade-long collaboration in crafting SEAHAWK helicopters. The SEAHAWK helicopters offer nations like Norway:

High reliability

Advanced mission systems and sensors

Low flight hour costs

Low maintenance and sustainment expenses

This contract signifies the second MH-60R agreement in under a month. On October 12, Lockheed Martin secured a contract for eight MH-60R aircraft for the Spanish Navy. Sikorsky has already supplied 330 MH-60R aircraft to five countries, with an additional 64 either in production or on order for India, Greece, South Korea, Australia, Spain, and now Norway.

Brigadier General Jarle Nergård, head of the Air Systems Division of the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency, expressed confidence in the MH-60R’s proven reliability and adaptability to Norway’s operational needs. As a first-time operator of SEAHAWK helicopters, Norway is slated to receive all six MH-60R aircraft by 2027.

Captain William Hargreaves, program manager of the H-60 Multi-mission Helicopter Program Office, affirmed the MH-60R’s suitability for diverse land and maritime operations. The Norwegian selection of this unparalleled, multi-mission helicopter underscores its aptness in bolstering their coast guard capabilities.
