M1A2 SEP v.3 tanks delivered to Polish military
The Polish Armed Forces have received a new addition to their military arsenal with the arrival of 28 state-of-the-art M1A2 Abrams tanks in the latest SEP v.3 configuration.
Defence24.pl has reported that the shipment, which arrived in Gdynia’s port from the United States, marks the fulfillment of a long-anticipated order and represents Poland’s commitment to modernizing its armored forces.
The delivery, which includes two tank companies, is part of a broader $4.75 billion contract signed on April 5, 2022. This agreement encompasses 250 M1A2 SEP v.3 tanks, 26 M88A2 Hercules recovery vehicles, 17 M1110 Joint Assault Bridges, and extensive training and logistical packages. The recently arrived tanks will undergo a thorough inspection before being assigned to a Polish military unit.
“This delivery strengthens Poland’s defensive capabilities and our cooperation with the United States,” said Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in a statement posted on X. “These advanced tanks will significantly enhance the combat readiness of the Polish Armed Forces.”
The M1A2 SEP v.3 is the latest iteration of the Abrams main battle tank, renowned for its battlefield superiority. Key enhancements include upgraded armor, advanced fire control systems, and improved crew survivability. With a combat weight exceeding 60 tons, the SEP v.3 is the heaviest tank in Poland’s inventory, offering unmatched protection and firepower on the battlefield.
These new tanks will join the existing fleet of 116 M1A1 FEP tanks, previously acquired from U.S. Army stockpiles between 2022 and 2024. The older M1A1s were refurbished before their deployment with the Polish Army’s 18th Mechanized Division, reflecting a rapid procurement process to address urgent defense needs.
Poland’s rapid procurement of Abrams tanks, along with its acquisition of HIMARS artillery systems and F-35 fighter jets, demonstrates its proactive approach to ensuring operational readiness and interoperability with NATO allies.
