Testing begins for Baykar’s indigenous Kemankes 2 mini cruise missile
Baykar initiates testing for its domestically developed Kemankes 2 mini smart cruise missile, showcasing advanced technology for strategic targets
The Kemankes 2 mini smart cruise missile, developed domestically by Baykar, has begun testing at the Baykar Flight Training and Test Center in Edirne Kesan.
The high-tech unmanned systems developed by Baykar continue to undergo successful testing processes.
According to a statement from Baykar, the Kemankes 2 mini smart cruise missile, capable of remaining airborne for approximately 1 hour, will demonstrate effective targeting capabilities against the most critical targets behind enemy lines, thanks to its jet engine.
Equipped with AI
Equipped with an artificial intelligence-supported optical guidance system, the Kemankes 2 boasts a mission range of over 200 kilometers (124.2 miles) and the ability to destroy identified targets accurately even in challenging weather.
Utilizing its artificial intelligence-supported autopilot system, the Kemankes 2 will conduct autonomous flights, effectively neutralizing strategic targets with high precision to establish superiority on the battlefield.
Given its anti-jamming technology, the Kemankes 2, operable under both day and night conditions, will be able to carry out missions without interference from electronic jamming.
The missile will relay all data and images acquired back to the ground control station, providing support for data tracking to the user.
Revolutionizing the defense industry
The mini smart cruise missile, developed against strategic targets, is the second version of the Kemankes series. The first version, Kemankes 1, was publicly showcased for the first time at Teknofest 2023 at Ataturk Airport.
It successfully completed its inaugural test firing on June 14, 2023, when it was launched from the Bayraktar TB2 UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle).
Haluk Bayraktar, CEO of Baykar, shared his thoughts on the matter in a post titled “A new frontier for our defense industry: cost-effective mini smart cruise missiles supported by artificial intelligence.”
Export champion
According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly in 2021 and 2022, Baykar emerged as the export leader in the defense and aviation sector.
In 2023, the Presidency of Defense Industries designated Baykar as the sector’s export champion. Last year, Baykar achieved exports worth $1.8 billion.
With more than 90% of its revenues coming from exports in recent years, Baykar accounted for one-third of the defense and aviation sector’s exports in 2023 alone.
As the world’s largest exporter of UAVs, Baykar’s existing contracts are 97.5% export-based. Export agreements have been signed with 33 countries for the Bayraktar TB2 UAV and nine countries for the Bayraktar Akinci UAV.
