BAE Systems and Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) have offered their BvS10 articulated all-terrain vehicle to the Indian Army.

The army issued a request for information for 18 Articulated All-Terrain Vehicles (AATV) for deployment in the mountainous Ladakh and marshy Kutch regions.

To meet the specific requirements, an upgraded BvS10, the BvS10-Sindhu, has been pitched for trials.

‘Make-in-India’

If selected, the vehicles will be delivered from L&T’s Armoured Systems Complex at Hazira in the Indian state of Gujarat.

“Our BvS10 all-terrain vehicle will demonstrate the critical capabilities the Indian Army needs when it participates in the trials later this month,” said BAE Systems Hagglunds managing director Tommy Gustafsson-Rask.

“Unsurpassed mobility, flexibility, and the ability to work in extreme climatic conditions are at the core of the BvS10 design.”

“Our teaming with Larsen & Toubro gives us the opportunity to expand into the Indo-Pacific market.”

Articulated All-Terrain Vehicle

An AATV is a twin-cabin armored vehicle that can operate in snow, ice, rock, sand, mud, swamps, and steep mountains.

The BvS10’s modular design allows it to be configured for various missions, including “transporting personnel, command and control, ambulance service, vehicle repair and recovery, logistics support, situational awareness, as well as vehicle mounted lethality and support weapons.”

The vehicle was recently displayed with a Mobile Short Range Air Defense system configuration.
