Denmark has contracted Finnish firm Patria to deliver 129 Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) 6×6 platforms.
Delivery will start this year to train Danish soldiers to operate the vehicle from 2026.
The order follows Copenhagen signing the last three agreements at once to join the multi-nation CAVS program, which includes Finland, Latvia, Sweden, and Germany.
The agreements — research and development, framework, and life cycle management — are essential to join the program.
Denmark initiated its membership in the program in April with the signing of the technical arrangement.
“With the purchase of armoured personnel carriers from Patria, we are strengthening the Army broadly with a contribution to both the light infantry battalion and the heavy brigade, so that Denmark’s defence is modernised and the soldiers have updated equipment,” Danish Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen said.
“Some of the personnel carriers will be delivered already this year, and thus the Defence can put the equipment into use more quickly. This is absolutely crucial in the current security policy situation.”
Multi-Nation Program
Patria said it has received orders for nearly 1,000 CAVS platforms from member nations and has delivered more than 200.
The vehicles are being procured by Denmark for both infantry and engineering units for command post, communication, ambulance, and electronic warfare.
Developed jointly under the CAVS program, the vehicle is produced in Finland and includes Danish components.
The program was launched in 2020 to offer a uniform 6×6 platform for the Finnish Defense Forces and its allies.
The vehicle is based on the Patria 6×6 platform, which has been designed for survivability, mobility, versatility, and affordability.
Patria 6×6 is equipped with STANAG level 2 ballistic and mine protection, making it suitable for protected troop transport and combat support roles.
Its robust, fully independent suspension and high-performance drive line are designed to improve mobility and crew comfort.
The vehicle can carry up to 10 fully-equipped soldiers in the rear plus a crew of two in the front cabin.
Moreover, the vehicle’s modular design allows it to be configured for a range of tasks, such as company command vehicles, medical evacuation vehicles, heavy armored personnel carriers, and carry the 120 mm Patria Nemo mortar system.
